The inaugural Cloud Security Challenge, sponsored by HP Labs, is now open for entries. The competition aims to uncover innovative new solutions to help protect governments and enterprises as they adopt the cloud.

Governments and industries around the world are attracted to the benefits of the cloud, but are hesitant because of possible security and privacy risks. Can your technology solve the issues surrounding the cloud?

The winner of the Cloud Security Challenge will receive:

• $10,000 cash award.
• exclusive mentorship from an industry leader (tbc).
• up to three finalists will also be invited to test their technology in an HP Labs cloud test-bed.

Entry is free and the deadline for receipt of entries is Monday 15 March 2010

Entrants must have a technology that can be used to prevent, defend against, cope with or recover from terrorist incidents and other criminal acts in the 'cloud'. The venture can not have more than GBP3 million in annual revenues in 2009 (total annual sales revenue).

Examples of areas of interest are (but are not limited to): data protection / storage in the cloud, authentication, encrypted (safe) data transfer, data classification, understanding data locations, vulnerabilities from social networks (web 2.0) and virtualization SW.
