Encrypting Critical Traffic Keeps It Safe From Web Hijacking

AEP Networks : 19 November, 2010  (Technical Article)
AEP Networks comments on the vulnerability of the web and the need for secure, encrypted communications to prevent data falling into the hands of hijackers who re-direct web traffic
According to a US government report, Chinese companies transmitted erroneous Internet-traffic instructions in April that briefly diverted about 15 percent of global Web traffic through servers in China.

Mark Darvill, director at trusted security firm, AEP Networks said: "While there is no simple solution to preventing such web traffic hijacking or mishaps, web site administrators, enterprises and governments need to take steps to protect the integrity of their data. All important data, including VPN traffic should be encrypted before being sent so that IP traffic can be protected across networks. Initiatives such as ICANN's DNSSEC are aimed at securing and stabilising the internet against this type of attack so that internet traffic can be authoritatively checked to see if it comes from a real and trusted source.

"The recent Stuxnet attack has significantly raised the profile of state-sponsored cyber attacks and the risks they pose to critical infrastructure. The cyber security world therefore needs to be confident that it can provide data confidentiality and source authentication for all network traffic.'

AEP Networks provides the highest grade security technologies to Government, military and enterprise organisations to support their mission critical applications and networks.
