Electronic access control for luxury spa.

Salto Systems : 02 August, 2007  (Application Story)
Electronic integrated access control system at Bristol resort hotel incorporates smart card technology to control staff access requirements.
The prestigious Holland House Hotel & Spa in Bristol has chosen Salto Systems for its secure access control requirements. The hotel awarded the installation contract to approved Salto business partner; Bristol based Gem Security Centre.

A brand new hotel, Holland House was formerly known as Phoenix House and was home to insurance company Sun Alliance before being totally refurbished and re-developed to create the city's latest luxury 4 star city centre hotel. Conveniently located, just 10 minutes walk from Bristol Temple Meads train station and 20 minutes drive from Bristol International Airport, it is also just minutes away from the Broadmead shopping centre and Bristol harbour.

The latest property in the Mercure Hotels portfolio, Holland House Hotel & Spa offers 275 en suite rooms, 16 suites, 9 reduced mobility rooms, 12 meeting and conference rooms, swimming pool, fitness suite and spa, and the stylish Phoenix restaurant and bar. WiFi wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel.

'We are delighted to have won this prestigious contract using Salto products which are both a cost effective and elegant solution" comments Jim Caola, MD of Gem Security Centre.

"Working in consultation with the architects and hotel owners, key elements of the brief were to develop a secure and flexible electronic access control system capable of easy integration with the hotel's Fidelio front office software management system. They also wanted control over access to the swimming pool and fitness suite as well as with day bookings of their conference suite facilities."

To achieve this Gem Security installed locks from Salto's E5000 range in a brushed stainless steel finish into 275 bedrooms and 50 back of house doors and service rooms. And, to control employee access, an online reader unit utilising the power of the Salto Virtual Network (SVN) is also being fitted on the staff entrance to the hotel.

SVN allows the hotel to read, receive and write information from/to smart staff ID cards and revolutionises the traditional problems associated with 'key' control by eliminating the need to replace locks when security is breached due to the loss or theft of a staff ID card. And, in addition, SVN's built-in audit trail facility can also be used as a management tool if required to check staff times when arriving at and leaving work.

Dean Pendlebury, Salto Systems UK Sales Manager, said: "We're delighted that the Holland House Hotel & Spa chose Salto, is pleased with the finished installation and with the performance of their new security system, recommendation in itself that all hotel managers should place smart proximity electronic locking at the top of their security shopping list."
