Easy virtualisation tool from Nebulas Solutions

Nebulas Solutions : 05 August, 2009  (New Product)
Companies planning on migrating to a virtual environment now have access to VDI in A Box from Nebulas for making the process simpler
Nebulas Solutions, the security, Virtualisation and acceleration specialist, has launched "VDI in a Box", an integrated solution which combines all the different technologies and expertise needed to create a virtual desktop infrastructure in a single box.

VDI in a Box aims to streamline the entire process of deploying a virtual desktop infrastructure, as well as significantly reducing the time and cost involved.

Typically, before IT departments start moving to a virtual desktop infrastructure, they spend between three and six months researching the different software, technology and storage options. VDI in a Box can reduce this process to a few days, because it contains all the proven technologies required to deploy a virtual infrastructure immediately. The solution has been developed using the experience and expertise that Nebulas Solutions has gained as a virtual infrastructure specialist. As a result, the solution provides the key technologies, which have been optimised to work most effectively together, along with all the pre-defined scripts needed to ensure a rapid, error-free implementation process.

As its name implies, the Box can be integrated quickly and easily into a standard rack and is ready for immediate implementation. This rapid installation has significant cost saving benefits: one engineer can take around two weeks to provision 10 physical workstations; the same engineer can provision a complete virtual infrastructure in four days using VDI in a Box.

VDI in a Box uses Pano Logic's zero client for the desktop, with VMware's technology providing the virtual and connection broker layers. These are combined with AppSense's user environment management solution to handle the physical to virtual desktop migration, as well as ongoing management of the user's policy and personalisation information. NetApp provides the storage component and is fully optimised for the VMware environment.

Managing Director, Nick Garlick is confident that customers will be attracted by its considerable cost and time savings benefits. He commented: "Many customers find that deciding how to virtualise their desktop environment is a costly, time consuming and complex process. In addition to taking several months, it's almost impossible for them to fully evaluate their proposed solution before the Virtualisation process starts, due to the different technologies, components and vendors that are involved."

He continued: "With VDI in a Box, we've shortcut the whole process. By combining our Virtualisation expertise with proven components and technologies, customers now have an optimised, integrated solution that works, straight out of a box. Customers don't need to redefine anything: they can implement a virtual desktop infrastructure in around 10% of the time they'd otherwise have taken."

VDI in a Box is being offered in several configurations to accommodate up to 50, 100, 500 and 1000+ users and has been designed to scale quickly and easily as users migrate. This expansion does not require a major hardware upgrade; it can be achieved purely by increasing the number of licenses and, if needed increasing their storage capacity.

Whilst VDI in a Box is a standardised solution, a number of complementary modules are available to further extend its capabilities. Add-on options facilitate operations such as managing branch offices over a WAN, virtualising applications to reduce storage needs, as well as further security and high availability options.

A fully operational demonstration of VDI in a Box is running at Nebulas Solutions' Demonstration Lab, where customers can evaluate its capabilities and discuss all aspects of its implementation with the technical team.
