Easy Third Party Application Patch Management With SCUPdates

Shavlik Technologies : 21 April, 2010  (New Product)
Shavlik joins the MS System Centre Alliance strengthening the company's automatic patch management capability
Shavlik Technologies has joined the Microsoft System Centre Alliance and will provide Shavlik SCUPdates support for Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager. Shavlik SCUPdates eliminates the time-consuming task of researching and creating updates for deployment by Configuration Manager. By importing the SCUPdates catalogue, Configuration Manager can begin deploying updates in just minutes for products from vendors like Adobe, Apple, Mozilla, and Sun Java.

Shavlik Technologies is demonstrating Shavlik SCUPdates at the Microsoft Management Summit (MMS), Booth #631, April from the 19-23 in Las Vegas, and is offering a free trial to attendees.

"With Shavlik SCUPdates I can deploy updates from Adobe and Sun JRE as Software Updates in System Centre Configuration Manager along with all the other Microsoft patches," said Ed Bruce, Senior Infrastructure Officer for HarborOne Credit Union. "It doesn't take a lot of time to download the SCUPdates catalogue and import the patch into Configuration Manager using System Centre Updates Publisher. Having these updates as part of the patch cycle and not having to download and package them will certainly save me time."

By using the Shavlik SCUPdates catalogue, Configuration Manager users now have a single workflow for deploying updates for both Microsoft and non-Microsoft applications. Shavlik SCUPdates merges patching 3rd party applications into the Configuration Manager workflow, resulting in a unified patch process, single reboot, and one comprehensive report status. The solution provides a catalogue file that feeds data into Configuration Manager; there is no separate application to install or manage.

"We're delighted to become a part of the Microsoft System Centre Alliance and believe the new Shavlik SCUPdates solution will be an ideal complement to Configuration Manager for patching applications beyond current Microsoft operating systems and applications,' said Mark Shavlik, CEO, Shavlik Technologies. 'Through Shavlik SCUPdates, we combine the firepower of the Shavlik Data Team with the detection logic of our award winning Shavlik NetChk Protect to reduce customers' workload when using Configuration Manager for patch management. This enables customers to do in minutes what used to take days."

'We are pleased that Shavlik Technologies has joined the System Centre Alliance," said JD Marymee, Director, Strategic Alliances, Management & Services Division for Microsoft. "SCUPdates from Shavlik greatly simplifies and streamlines Configuration Manager's capability to patch customer's environments."

Shavlik SCUPdates is a catalogue file that supports patching Microsoft legacy applications and non-Microsoft such as Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Sun Java, Firefox and others by providing security updates from many vendors via a single trusted source. Without it, Configuration Manager customers would face the time-consuming task of researching and creating update packages for every security patch for every application they use. Shavlik SCUPdates provides an effective and cost-efficient way to augment patch detection and deployment for all enterprise applications.
