EAL4+ Certification for StoneGate firewall

Stonesoft Networks : 16 April, 2009  (New Product)
VPN firewall from Stonesoft gains highest common criteria certification
Stonesoft has announced its StoneGate Firewall/VPN has received the Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level EAL 4+ certification. The EAL 4+ is the highest commercially feasible certification level.

"In September 2003, StoneGate 2.0.5 became the first product in its category to achieve the Common Criteria designation for both its maximum security firewall/VPN and high-availability failover component", recalls Klaus Majewski, VP of marketing at Stonesoft. "We are proud that the certification has now been extended to the latest release, demonstrating our continuous commitment to the highest level of security, reliability and performance of our products and providing our customers full confidence that they are in compliance with globally accepted security standards."

'EAL4+ certification is a definite plus for a firewall engine. Recertification is proof of the developer's trustworthiness and concern for observing development and security standards while ensuring the product's stability, as well as its continual but controlled improvement. This represents a true guarantee of quality for customers", says Silvère Pradella, network service unit manager, Thales. With operations in 50 countries and 68,000 employees, Thales is a world leader in mission-critical information systems for the aerospace, defence and security markets.

The Common Criteria certification is an independent security standard that is globally ratified in 26 countries. More and more organisations with high security demands rely on the certification when making investment decisions. Common Criteria certified products have undergone and passed extensive and rigorous independent third-party testing, giving customers assurance that the product meets the security requirements defined in the Security Target evaluation document.

The StoneGate Firewall/VPN version 4.2.2, Build 5708.cc3.1 was tested and validated by British Telecom commercial evaluation facility under supervision of Communications-Electronics Security Group (CESG) Certification Body in UK.
