Dynamic, real-time visibility of IT assets

NetOp Solutions : 30 September, 2008  (New Product)
Netop Asset Control provides the ability to discover and track corporate IT assets centrally
Netop has introduced a complete hardware and software IT Asset Management solution for medium-sized companies.

Netop Asset Control allows IT administrators to proactively discover, manage and track the IT assets of a company from a central location. The solution helps identify potential savings for hardware and software usage and to avoid high-risk compliance issues. Companies can also improve the productivity of their IT resources, reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) and generally increase their ROI.

'These days companies demand that their IT departments document and manage IT assets in order to get an overview of the cost situation, organisational changes, maintenance of service agreements and to ensure compliance regulations are being adhered to,' explains Mike Kibblewhite, Managing Director and Country Manager of Netop UK. 'Netop Asset Control helps companies achieve these goals by providing complete visibility of important IT assets from a central location along with the associated contractual relationships.'

Product Manager Chris Twyman, adds: "The Inventory Scan function in our Netop Remote Control product provides a complete overview of a computer's hardware configuration and installed software. Customers have been impressed with this and wanted to use the information in their planning. Now with Netop Asset Control they can do just that and much more".

Netop Asset Control consists of components including the Netop Asset Agent, Netop Asset Manager and an SQL Server database. This uncomplicated but robust approach allows administrators to design and monitor the required implementation centrally, while making the most of their existing infrastructure and ensuring data accessibility. The product can help identify software usage and license management, and determine the scope and frequency of any given software application. With constantly updated real-time information and a flexible reporting tool, companies can extract important data to help plan budgets, investments, system upgrades, operating system rollouts and software deployment.

* Netop Asset Agent is designed to reconstruct a comprehensive collection of hardware and software configurations from the network and immediately report back any changes that have occurred.

* Netop Asset Agent has a very low overhead and can be configured to operate at pre-defined intervals, making it extremely non-intrusive to the end user.

* Active Directory integration allows IT administrators to initiate remote scans leaving no footprint at all on the target PC.

* With the various search functions, advanced filters and reports, it is easy to locate computers, printers, users and applications.

* The built-in approval process for installed software allows IT departments to categorise software types, enforce software policies and discover non-approved applications on the network.

* Close integration with Netop Remote Control, allows administrators to perform remote administrative tasks from their own PC with a simple right-click.

* Custom data can be introduced into the asset management process, for example, information relating to cost centres or leasing contracts and all custom data can be made available when generating reports.

Because the Netop Asset Agent determines all software installations and their actual degree of utilisation, a company can enforce usage policies and dispense with unused licenses much more easily. The license management keeps all associated license information up-to-date such as the number of licenses, serial numbers, prices, purchase dates and maintenance expiration. Central maintenance of license provisions can be achieved with just a few clicks, saving a company time in the event of an audit.
