Disk protection and rollback technology added to NetSupport Protect

NetSupport Inc : 04 October, 2007  (New Product)
Popular desktop security software goes to Beta version which includes new functionality such as rollback capability
Software developer, NetSupport are pleased to announce the availability of NetSupport Protect (version 1.5 BETA) which now includes as standard an innovative disk protection technology, providing a highly efficient and effective solution for restoring a computer system as a result of damaged drivers, accidental file deletion, malicious activity etc.

Rob Hawkins, Development Director, said: "Many organisations ignore the business and financial implications of system downtime. That's because they still think in the "disaster recovery" paradigm, rather than recognising the impact of high availability as a key business advantage. It's a business process that ensures business continuity and in today's economy, system uptime is absolutely crucial."

NetSupport Protect already provides two-fold system management - firstly, the ability to protect and lock down a desktop computer to avoid unwanted or malicious changes to the system, thereby securing operational integrity; and secondly, NetSupport Protect provides controls over user behaviour, thus maintaining operational efficiency and safeguarding business critical content, including end point security, application controls and network management. This latest update provides an alternative to desktop lockdown, namely the ability for a system to be flexible in its use, secure in the knowledge that if errors occur, the system can be restored in full on a simple reboot. Windows Vista is also fully supported.

Unlike traditional disk imaging solutions, NetSupport Protect constantly monitors changes to the operating system and supporting files and then records any changes ready for restoration, thereby removing the need for initial disk imaging and providing an instant restoration when needed.

A recent ICSA survey suggested file corruption and data loss were increasingly common and, when combined with productivity losses, were the single most significant cost associated with a technology disaster. In addition, a recent "cost of downtime" survey by IDC suggested 32% of data loss was caused by human error.

System downtime can destruct businesses, educational establishments and end users. Traditionally this downtime can be broken into three distinct categories: planned, semi-planned and unplanned. NetSupport Protect focuses on providing both a proactive and reactive offering to address the issues of semi and unplanned events (such as software failures, operator error, malicious acts or technology limitations) by being unique in providing both desktop protection and desktop restoration in a single, simple to use solution.
