eema, the European association for e-identity and security, in collaboration with OASIS (Organisation for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards), and the BCS (British Computer Society) have announced the full programme for the European e-Identity conference. The two-day event takes place in London on 25th and 26th June 2009, bringing together global experts in privacy, security and e-identity and including an address from the US Department of Homeland Security.

Chief Privacy Officer at the US Department of Homeland Security, Mary Ellen Callahan will present: 'Identity and Privacy: Policy, Governance, Barriers and Compliance'. The session will explore the protection and privacy of citizen and non-citizen data during the increasing trend for information sharing between governments. Callahan will also demonstrate the importance of building privacy policy upon a foundation of transparency, in order to achieve trust. Callahan comments: "Accountability for data privacy is achievable where there is a democratic exchange of ideas that includes the data subjects and the data users."

The Chairman of eema, David Goodman and Chair of the OASIS IDTrust Member Section Steering Committee, June Leung, will open the conference on 25th June, followed by an e-identity market overview provided by the Architect of Identity and Access in the Connected Systems Division at Microsoft, Kim Cameron.

Enterprises are facing more complex, higher scale, and more regulated identity environments; they are dealing with not only employees, but also federated partner environments and customers, reaching their limit of knowledge, time, and resources. This will be the topic of Chief Architect for Security Management at CA, Inc, Tim Brown's keynote, who will question whether identity services in the cloud provide a route to e-identity adoption. Brown comments: "The cloud can be the enabling architecture needed for managing the explosive growth of federated identities within existing applications, while supporting the authentication of unpredictable numbers of e-Identities and information cards that are introduced with new applications."

The conference will run across two concurrent tracks with more than 40 sessions hosted by organisations including the UK Passport Office, ENISA, Danish Ministry of Science, OpenTrust, Securenet, IBM and Networks AG. Delegates will be encouraged to actively participate in a broad programme of panel discussions, roundtable sessions and focused workshops on the challenges and strategies for effectively managing government, employee, citizen and private identities.

The event has also been chosen by STORK - a pilot scheme co-funded by the EU that aims to implement EU-wide interoperability of electronic identities (eIDs) - as the forum in which to host its second industry group meeting, to progress a pan-European eID interoperability system.

The European e-Identity Conference takes place on 25th and 26th June at Cardinal Place, 100 Victoria Street, London.
