Dell SecureWorks joins cyber incident response scheme

SecureWorks : 19 November, 2013  (Company News)
The UK Government's cyber incident response scheme will benefit from the expertise of the Counter Threat Unit at Dell SecureWorks
Dell SecureWorks joins cyber incident response scheme

Dell SecureWorks is among the IT security providers selected to be part of the UK Government certified Cyber Incident Response (CIR) scheme.

The CIR scheme has been developed to protect UK businesses from cyber threats and to provide clear guidance as to which security service providers companies can turn to for help should they be attacked. The scheme and Dell SecureWorks aim to make the UK more resilient to cyber-attacks, and to help businesses recover quickly and with minimum disruption should they suffer an attack.

Incident response provides rapid containment of cyber threats, ensuring that a breach impacts a small part of an organisation whenever possible. Once the threat has been completely eradicated, those responsible for security need to ensure that the business is properly protected against future threats by implementing an appropriate and robust security plan.

There was a strict criteria that had to be met in order to join the scheme. The selection process required businesses to demonstrate a high level of expertise, a robust methodology in approaching threats and solid experience of handling, containing and recovering from a wide range of cyber-attacks.

Dell SecureWorks’ CTU research team, successfully proved its extensive capabilities in key areas to join the scheme, including:

* Active and continual monitoring of the cyber threat landscape
* Investigating and tracking threat actor groups on a global scale
* Discovering and Performing in-depth analysis of emerging threats and zero-day vulnerabilities
* Helping organisations prepare for, respond to, and recover from highly complex and large-scale security incidents

A visionary programme, the CIR scheme is a model for governments worldwide because of the advice and support it will offer organisations in preparing to prevent and successfully responding to cyber-attacks. It has been developed with and is certified by the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) and CESG.

Don Smith, director of technology, Dell SecureWorks commented, “Over the last 18 months, Dell SecureWorks have been actively engaged with the CPNI/CESG in responding to serious security incidents, and we are delighted to have this relationship formalised. This is an excellent example of the government working with the private sector to provide organisations with much-needed assistance in a critical area for modern-day enterprises; cyber security.

Even in mature IT environments, when faced with advanced and targeted attacks, organisations often require an extra level of assistance and expertise.  That is where CIR certified security vendors, such as Dell SecureWorks, will come in.”
