DbProtect in use with the American air force

Application Security : 23 April, 2009  (Application Story)
The US department of defence has taken database security software from Application Security for use in the Air Force
Application Security has been featured in a major industry report detailing a DoD deployment with the US Air Force. The report highlights Application Security's DbProtect as an integral component of a Department of Defence data security deployment in the US Air Force Application Software Assurance Center of Excellence. (ASACoE)

IDC's Best Practices: ProveIT Case Study for US Air Force Software Assurance Center of Excellence report examines an innovative US Air Force initiative to implement application security and software assurance best practices. The initiative includes programs in application security awareness and application monitoring. Additionally, the program provides for training and mentoring to enable software developers to identify and repair existing vulnerabilities and incorporate security into software coding practices.

The report highlights the critical importance of the database, and describes the capabilities that DbProtect delivers to government agencies with a requirement to protect their sensitive and confidential information. The report also discusses business drivers and challenges that organizations face in deterring threats to their critical data.

"As the volume of attacks increase, and as the complexity of threats to sensitive data continue to rise, organizations need enterprise-class protection where the data lives, which is in the database," said Ron Dorman, vice president of Xacta Information Assurance Solutions, Telos Corporation. "We selected DbProtect, the best-in-class database security, risk and compliance solution for major DoD customer deployments, including the USAF ASACoE. DbProtect safeguards confidential information in sophisticated, heterogeneous database environments. Through its regulatory compliance templates and powerful reporting module, Application Security, Inc. has developed a comprehensive data protection solution that effectively builds compliance into the database."

According to IDC, "…the biggest risk was — and is — not doing anything about software vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities exist at each tier of the application infrastructure, including the Web front end, middleware, and even the back-end database where all the sensitive application data is stored."1

"Our selection by the Air Force underscores the impact posed by threats to enterprise data, and affirms that Application Security consistently delivers the most comprehensive software to address enterprise database security, risk, and compliance," said Thom VanHorn, vice president, global marketing, Application Security. "With over 250 unique implementations across DoD and civilian agencies, our customers trust Application Security to safeguard their most valuable asset - their data."
