Datacard To Supply Passport Production System to Columbia

Datacard Group : 02 April, 2010  (Application Story)
The Columbian national passport program to use technology from Datacard for the secure production of up to 200 passport booklets per hour using the PB6500 Passport Issuance System
Datacard Group announces the selection of the Datacard PB6500 Passport Issuance System for use in the Colombian national passport program.

Currently, Colombia issues more than 500,000 passports a year, using a time consuming, manual process that involves multiple steps and offers only limited security technologies to fight counterfeiting and fraud. With their new passport program, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wanted to speed the process and increase their capacity for issuance, while also substantially improving the security of the document.

The Datacard PB6500 Passport Issuance System will be used to produce up to 200 laser personalized booklets per hour, allowing the ministry to increase or decrease production levels depending on demand. From a security standpoint, the PB6500 system's laser personalization process is among the most secure personalization methods on the market today. The lasers actually engrave the substrate of every passport, making them extremely difficult to alter after issuance.

"The Ministry evaluated a number of passport issuance solutions prior to selecting the PB6500 system," said Joe Lopez, regional director of Latin America sales for Datacard Group. "Ultimately, it came down to the system's speed and security, combined with our in-country service and support network that drove the Ministry's final selection of the PB6500 system."

Datacard Group will provide local installation support and training for the program via their authorized distributor, Identificacion Plastica SA.
