Data Strategy award for Vodafone and Datanomic

Datanomic : 27 October, 2009  (Company News)
Vodafone's use of dn:Director for compliance screening on mobile money transfer services wins data strategy award
Compliance screening and data management specialists, Datanomic, have announced that leading mobile telecommunications provider, Vodafone Group, has won Data Strategy magazine’s 2009 award for ‘Best Use of Data in Technology, Communications and Web-Based Services’ for its global deployment of Datanomic’s dn:Director for SPS Compliance Screening solution. Vodafone’s submission, entitled ‘Mobile Money Transfer: Delivering Banking Services in Emerging Markets’ centred around the company’s standardisation on Datanomic’s Sanctions & PEP (Politically Exposed Persons) Screening solution to protect its M-PESA mobile money transfer service from exploitation by money launderers, terrorist financiers, fraudsters and other risk entities. The judges acknowledged the highly tangible business benefits and Vodafone’s technology leadership in relation to its proactive adherence to regulatory compliance. The highly coveted prize was presented at the publication’s gala awards dinner, 22nd October, at The Royal Lancaster Hotel, London.

Vodafone’s implementation of dn:Director for Sanctions and PEP Screening is already screening approximately 2.5 million customers every week in Tanzania, and will be screening many more in Afghanistan, Kenya, India and globally as the service is rolled out in its entirety. Vodafone’s Money Transfer service is aimed at developing countries, and Datanomic’s technology will ensure stringent anti-money laundering (AML) practices are upheld. Datanomic’s solution is scalable and has the potential to screen all of Vodafone’s 300 million customers globally.

The judges also recognised other Datanomic partners and customers. Datanomic partner, Initiate Systems and customer, Brent Council, won the prestigious award for ‘Best Use of Data in Public Sector’ in relation to Brent’s Client Index System. Brent uses Datanomic’s dn:Director software as a data cleansing filter for this Client Index. The Index, a centrally-held data store of information pertaining to every Brent citizen, gives the Council a complete view of every resident by matching data from the wide range of back office systems which support the Council’s various services, such as Housing, Benefits, and Social Care. dn:Director’s reporting metrics and dashboard features allow managers of data and the executive teams responsible for services delivery to collaborate effectively, gain insight into their community, and to identify potential areas for improvement. The system is a benchmark for all 437 UK local authorities through the Data Connects best practice group.

Furthermore, another Datanomic customer, Durham and Darlington Primary Care Trust (PCT), was a finalist in the ‘Best Use of Data in Healthcare’ category for its use of dn:Director to deliver accuracy of clinical coding data, essential for ensuring commissioned care services are correctly reimbursed throughout the Trust’s region.

“We are delighted that the prestigious judging panel recognised all the hard work and outstanding achievements of our customers, our partners, our technology and our people,” said Dr Jonathan Pell, CEO of Datanomic. “These awards demonstrate dn:Director’s superior ability to help organisations comply with regulation, achieve cost savings, improve performance and identify opportunities, all through leveraging their information effectively. The customer projects and applications highlighted for their innovation in these awards are representative of how all our customers are reaping tangible results worldwide with dn;Director. Our software is being used across the telco, retail, finance and public sectors to help minimise risks in data and improve operational efficiency.”

The Datanomic Sanctions & PEP Screening software deployed by Vodafone Group, is used by firms around the world to screen more than two billion customer records every month and is recognised as the Sanctions/PEP compliance platform of choice by two of the top ten global Retail Banks, 50% of the UK’s Top 10 Wealth and Asset Managers and some of the world’s largest Insurance companies, Credit Card providers, Hedge Funds, Brokers, Merchant Banks Investment Banks, e-Money providers and Law Firms.
