Data in motion protection for Massachusetts with DLP from CipherOptics

CipherOptics : 14 December, 2009  (Application Story)
Housing and Economic Development Department of the State of Massachusetts has opted to protect its sensitive data with encryptors from CipherOptics
CipherOptics has announced that the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development (EOHED) for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is deploying the CipherOptics CEP line of standards-based encryptors and CipherEngine, the industry's most scalable policy and key management solution for network encryption, to protect their data as it is transmitted across public access networks.

The EOHED is the agency responsible for the new Massachusetts data protection law and its enforcement. The final regulations of the law were filed last month and are set to take effect on March 1, 2010. The Massachusetts Data Protection law is considered to be one of the nation's toughest data protection laws.

"We selected CipherOptics because of the transparent nature of their network encryption solution and wire speed performance," said Dana Racine, Director of Infrastructure for the EOHED. "We wanted a solution that provided the highest level of data protection, but did not require us to change or reconfigure our network equipment. CipherOptics provided an in-line solution for encryption at a performance level that rivaled the next closest vendor we evaluated."

The ability to encrypt data in motion without impacting network or application performance makes CipherOptics' solutions ideal for any organization needing to protect their sensitive information or comply with data protection regulations. The CEP line of encryptors offers 10Mbps to 1Gbps wire-speed encryption for any Ethernet or MPLS network, with 10Gbps available in 2010. CipherEngine, a breakthrough policy and key management solution, makes it easy to deploy and manage any network encryption solution, regardless of scale.

Another key aspect for the EOHED was CipherOptics' ability to encrypt both Layer 2 and Layer 3 traffic with the same appliance. Like many government agencies and enterprises, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has a hybrid network that is updated and modified on a regular basis. Racine goes on to say, "As our infrastructure changes, CipherEngine will continue to provide value by allowing us to redeploy the hardware across a variety of environments."
