Cyber Terrorism Escalated To Tier One Risk In The UK

AEP Networks : 19 October, 2010  (Technical Article)
AEP Networks comments on the recent re-categorisation by the British government of hostile cyber attacks on the UK
The National Security Strategy released to parliament by William Hague has categorised hostile attacks on UK cyberspace as a tier one 'Priority Risk'.

Mark Darvill, director at trusted security firm, AEP Networks commented: "Unlike kinetic warfare, with cyber warfare there are no rules. It offers perpetrators a very attractive means to an end - financial gain, physical destruction or human casualties - without the fear of getting their hands dirty. Just as securing and managing the physical defence of the country is a unique challenge, so is protecting the UK's critical infrastructure from threats of cyber terrorism."

"The target for cyber terrorists will be our national infrastructures - water, power, emergency services and internet and we need to protect the computer systems that operate these infrastructures. Traditional security technologies are in no way up to the challenge. As with the authenticity signing of the internet, it is collaboration within the security industry that will give us the biggest chance of successfully defending against cyber warfare."

"When it comes to protecting the integrity of our national intelligence, Government organisations need to control who is able to access what data from what device and be confident that the maximum security measures are in place. Ensuring the highest levels of security is absolutely paramount when the consequence of compromise is severe damage."

AEP Networks provides the highest grade security technologies to Government, military and enterprise organisations to support their mission critical applications and networks.
