Cyber Security Challenge 2011 Focuses On Data Leakage

OmniCompete is launching its third annual Cyber Security Challenge (CSC III). This year’s challenge will focus on data leakage and loss. As hacked databases and the loss of sensitive data dominate the headlines, this timely challenge will seek out and reward innovative solutions to data issues.

Recognising the increasing importance of taking a proactive approach to data protection, industry leaders

Thales UK and Digital Barriers are supporting the Challenge.

"Digital Barriers is delighted to be supporting the Cyber Security Challenge. We look forward to seeing a

range of innovative ideas and technologies to help ensure network integrity and combat the loss of sensitive

data, which today is more critical than ever" said Giles Walker of Digital Barriers.

Tony Bull of Thales UK said, “We are delighted to be sponsoring this year’s Cyber Security Challenge focusing on data leakage. We are looking forward to an interesting competition which we are confident will not only attract entrants from cyber security but also from non traditional sectors, to tackle this pressing issue of data leakage.”

The CSC is seeking ideas, solutions and technologies that can prevent, detect, track or mitigate data leakage or loss through web applications, lost storage devices, unauthorised access to databases and back-end system, file-sharing sites, clipboard misuse, portable/removable media, network remote access, web browsing, wireless breach, private data accidentally sent out and cloud systems. Individuals, startups and SMEs from around the world are eligible to enter, and submissions can be made through the OmniCompete website until 22 August 2011.

The CSC will be judged in two stages. A panel of independent experts will complete the first round online,

and finalists will be invited to pitch their ideas at PitchLive, a two-day event combining and expo, expert workshops, a number of competition finals including the Global Security Challenge. PitchLive will take place on 24-25 October in London, UK, and tickets are already on sale through the OmniCompete website.

The CSC III winner will be awarded a prize package of $10,000. All finalists will benefit from invaluable

networking opportunities at PitchLive, which will be attended by government, industry and venture capital

funds such as Paladin Capital Group, Novak Biddle Venture Partners and Kleiner Perkins Baufield & Byers.
