Cyber crime investigation centre launched by Aladdin

Aladdin Knowledge Systems : 16 October, 2008  (Company News)
Research centre to provide intelligence on the latest IT threats with reports regularly available to security community
Aladdin Knowledge Systems has announced the launch of the Aladdin Attack Intelligence Research Centre, a premier facility for Internet security cybercrime investigation.

Based at Aladdin's headquarters in Israel, the Attack Intelligence Research Centre is comprised of global security researchers and law enforcement and cybercrime specialists dedicated to delivering security data and intelligence that educates, supports and strengthens the security community, and drives innovation in Aladdin's content security solutions.

Spearheaded by forensic Web specialist Ian Amit, director of security research at Aladdin Knowledge Systems, the Centre steps beyond traditional threat detection to provide business intelligence surrounding evolving threats, predict future trends in Internet security, and uncover the inner workings and affects of the business of eCrime. The findings enable organizations to implement best practices and build corporate policy to protect against zero-hour and future Internet threats that compromise legitimate business safety.

"Discovering malware is only half the battle — our mission is to go beyond threat detection and malicious code to identify where the threat came from, who is benefitting from it, and how threats ultimately affect real organizations today and in the future," said Amit. "It is only through the understanding of how these threats are developed and delivered that we can protect our businesses today, and become educated and better prepared for tomorrow."

With more than 10 years of experience in the information security industry, Amit brings a mixture of software development, OS, network and Web security expertise to Aladdin. Prior to Aladdin, he held a director position at a global Internet security company, leading its security research group. Amit was also the founder and CTO of a security startup in the IDS/IPS arena and developed new techniques for attack interception. Prior to that, he served in a director position at Datavantage responsible for software development, information security as well designing and building a financial Datacenter. Amit holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Business Administration from the Interdisciplinary Centre at Herzlya.

The Centre will publish a semi-annual security trend report that not only recapitulates the Web threats of the previous six months, but also uses these findings to summarize trends in cybercrime and predict threats that will affect businesses in the next six months. Amit will also recommend proactive actions organizations can take to protect against attacks. The Attack Intelligence Research Centre will consistently deliver threat research, Monthly threat forecasts, Technical blogs, Regular security updates, Opt-in email / SMS notifications and Emergency support.

"Aladdin created the Attack Intelligence Research Centre to uncover valuable threat intelligence and provide predictive guidance that advances the understanding of the business of eCrime and ensures that organizations are better prepared to protect themselves against cybercrime attacks," said Tsion Gonen, vice president of the Content Security Business Unit at Aladdin Knowledge Systems. "By focusing on the ever-changing eCrime tactics, the Centre is uniquely positioned to recommend best practices to the community and drive innovation in Aladdin's content security solutions."
