Cunning web hacks can be overcome with behavioural analysis software.

Tier-3 : 19 November, 2007  (Technical Article)
US hacked sport sites bearing malware exploit surfers trust according to Tier-3 who recommend behavioural analysis software to counter this kind of threat.
Reports that hackers have broken into a swathe of popular US sports Web sites, poisoning them with an infected security scan request, highlight the need for Web surfers to install behavioural analysis software on their machines, says Geoff Sweeney, CTO of IT security vendor Tier-3.

Sweeney, who heads up the technology team at the behavioural analysis software specialist, says that hackers appear to have targeted the US Major League Baseball and National Hockey League Web sites earlier this month in what is a new trend in hacking.

'The fact that they loaded the Web sites with an exploit that persuaded users they needed to scan their computer, but actually downloaded malware, is a crafty trick in itself, but specific Web site genre targeting of this type is also a new development,' he said.

'More than anything, however, these Web site hacks highlight the need for Web surfers - both business and consumer - to use IT security software that features behavioural analysis technology,' he added.

'As well as our own Huntsman business software, a growing number of consumer applications are now featuring this type of technology, which is capable of stopping malware executing, whatever its source, before it does any damage,' he explained.
