Counterfeit protection for South Korean phone cards

TSSI Systems : 26 March, 2009  (Application Story)
TSSI Systems has been selected by KDnet of South Korea to protect its phone card system from fraud using Watermark Magnetics technology
TSSI Systems, the document security and identity specialist, has won a substantial two-year contract to protect phone card fraud in South Korea. TSSI has protected more than one billion Korean phone cards since 1986. The new contract with KDnet, the multimedia telephone manufacturer's operator in South Korea, means that TSSI will have secured the phone system against fraud for an unprecedented total of 25 years.

Under the terms of the agreement, TSSI Watermark Magnetics technology will continue to be applied to the stored value Korean telephone cards protecting them from counterfeiting and fraud. TSSI's Watermark Magnetics was first used on Korean phone cards at the 1986 South Asian Games and has continued to be the preferred choice of counterfeit protection in the fight against fraud, protecting the telecom infrastructure for South Korea.

"It's an incredible achievement to have protected South Korea's telephone infrastructure for such a long period without suffering any counterfeiting or fraud. It is a true testament to the robustness of this technology and the extension of the contract. It reinforces the capability of Watermark Magnetics as an anti-counterfeiting solution," said John Barker, Sales Director and General Manager, TSSI.

"We are very happy with TSSI and the technology deployed, this is why we continue to use Watermark Magnetics as our preferred choice of anti-counterfeit protection for securing our stored value telephone cards. In 23 years we've never had an incident of a counterfeit telephone card in circulation, if we had suffered counterfeiting the loss of revenue would have destroyed consumer confidence with the entire pre-paid phone system," said Yong-Taik Choi, CEO, KDnet.
