Content Security Market Research Report Available

Infonetics Research : 07 December, 2010  (New Product)
Infonetics Research releases market research report covering content security appliances and software for the 3rd quarter of 2010
Market research firm Infonetics Research has released its third quarter of 2010 (3Q10) 'Content Security Appliances and Software' and 'Network Security Appliances and Software' market share and forecast reports.

'Cisco posted massive growth in content security revenue in the third quarter (up more than 30% from the previous quarter), driving up the content security market, as companies continue the trend of making reactive content security purchases to unload budget in the second half of the year. Meanwhile, Cisco had a down quarter in the network security segment, offsetting Juniper's and Check Point's gains and resulting in a flat quarter for network security. In general, some of the long-term growth in the larger established network security market is transitioning to the content security market,' observes Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research.

Content Security Market Highlights:

The worldwide content security gateway market grew 10% from 2Q10 to 3Q10, hitting $715.2 million

o Overall content security gateway revenue is up 25% year-over-year
o The appliance segment performed especially well, with revenue up 35% year-over-year

Security threats, such as stuxnet and Zeus, continue to make headlines, generating awareness and helping to drive content security revenue

The proliferation of smartphones, iPads, netbooks, and other mobile devices is driving purchases of gateway security solutions as companies seek to protect from malware the critical infrastructure in their headquarters, branch offices, remote offices, and data centers

McAfee maintains first place for total content security gateway revenue (appliances and software) in 3Q10; Blue Coat is second, Cisco third, although Cisco surpassed Blue Coat in the appliance revenue to take second in that segment

Network Security Market Highlights

* In 3Q10, the worldwide network security appliance and software market was essentially a flat, seasonally typical quarter, down 0.1% sequentially, totaling $1.43 billion

* Cisco lost market share in most network security categories while Juniper and Check Point gained; this is particularly true in the >$30K integrated security appliance category, where Juniper has now opened up a substantial lead

* HP (TippingPoint) had a strong quarter, moving into fifth place in the overall network security appliance and software market

* Juniper posted its biggest quarter ever in SSL VPN revenue, widening their market share lead
