Connersville Police to be located on Carbon Campus

Carbon Motors : 12 February, 2010  (Company News)
Carbon Motors is continuing to make its mark on Indiana with the completion of site refurbishment and the announcement that the local police department will be located alongside the production facility for the Carbon E7 purpose built patrol car
In a dedication ceremony, Carbon Motors Corporation marked the beginning of its efforts to fulfil its commitment to provide desperately needed jobs to southeastern Indiana fulfilled another one of its commitments towards putting Americans back to work. Carbon Motors placed its moniker on what will become the Carbon Campus, following the refurbishment of the contaminated brownfield site at 4747 Western Avenue, now known as One Carbon Motors Drive in Connersville, Indiana 47331.

The sign, clad with powerful imagery of the United States flag, the state and city emblems, and the company's insignia, is symbolic of the drive of the federal, state, and local authorities to work hand-in-hand with the private sector to create thousands of new American jobs of national importance. The company also announced that it will collocate the Connersville Police Department alongside the entirety of its operations where it will produce the Carbon E7, the world's first purpose-built law enforcement patrol vehicle.

"In October of 2009, the State of Indiana, Fayette County, the City of Connersville and Carbon Motors signed agreements and pledged to work together to put an end to the growing trend of unemployment in the State," said William Santana Li, chairman and chief executive officer, Carbon Motors Corporation. "Carbon Motors is delivering on its commitments and is excited to work side-by-side with the Connersville Police Department to mark the beginning of a new chapter in Indiana's history."

The City of Connersville and the areas surrounding Fayette County are experiencing record high unemployment rates of greater than 16 percent. Mayors from nearby cities, county commissioners, law enforcement officers, and citizens eager to rebuild the region attended the event.

"In my 34 years of law enforcement, I've not seen another company so dedicated to improving the face of policing as the team at Carbon Motors," said David Counceller, chief of police, City of Connersville Police Department. "I commend the State of Indiana for taking a stand against unemployment, saving taxpayers money, and for paving the way to improving officer safety."

In addition to the City's efforts to remediate the industrial contamination from the site, Carbon Motors, upon of approval of plans, will be putting State funds to use to begin hiring people to refurbish the 183-acre, 1.8-million-square-foot industrial site. Collocating the police department on campus is a natural fit for both Carbon Motors and local law enforcement first responders.

"On two previous occasions, nearly 10,000 invigorated workers rallied together to bring Carbon Motors to Indiana," said Mayor Leonard Urban, City of Connersville. "Carbon Motors is now here and breathing life back into this community - they are writing the next chapter of Connersville history, without hesitation, and we stand shoulder to shoulder with them in what will be a great American success story."
