Connect Protect system for Hyperdrive USB devices

BeCrypt : 27 September, 2007  (New Product)
BeCrypt to supply end point security for USB hardware supplied by Hyperdrive.
BeCrypt has been selected by Hypertec to provide end-point security for its Hyperdrive range of USB connected hardware. BeCrypt's Connect Protect will be sold by Hypertec as part of a package to introduce device identification specific to the end user. This will provide greater control and safeguards to organisations that allow USB devices to be connected to computers attached to the corporate network. Connect Protect will also provide a detailed audit trail, so administrators can see when data is stored, removed or external data introduced, and by which user.

By providing a unique identification for each user, only valid Hypertec devices sourced from the correct channel will be recognised by Connect Protect, and so be allowed to connect to the network. Sanctioned devices can be controlled with varying degrees of granularity depending on the level of control required, either Disabled/No Access, Read-Only or Enabled/Full Access. When used with Hyperdrive devices the Connect Protect audit will document any illegal connection events and any files copied from or to the PC, providing a powerful incentive to staff to adhere to company policy regarding the usage of USB devices.

Simon Smart, Technical Director at Hypertec commented: " Organisations are keen to use USB devices as it greatly increases the flexibility and productivity of the work force. However, this has to be balanced against the risk of data leakage. The use of BeCrypt's Connect Protect allows us to provide a solution that leverages the benefits of using our

USB Flash and Firestorm Hard Disk and Optical drives whilst at the same time reducing the risk of data being compromised.

"We have been working with BeCrypt for some time on this basis and this next step to a formal partnership cements what has been a growing and successful relationship to date. We were particularly pleased to have won and delivered our joint solution to one of the most respected UK financial institutions proving our proposition meets high customer expectations in this area."

Richard Brooks, Director of Sales, EMEA at BeCrypt said; "We are delighted to be working with Hypertec on this innovative way of controlling USB connected hardware. Whilst removable media is a very useful aid to productivity, such devices do pose a very real threat, which many organisations have not yet addressed. Hypertec's approach to this issue, using Connect Protect to control individually identified devices, will ensure that its customers gain all the benefits of USB devices, without the associated risks."
