Conference on software as a service arranged by FAST

The Federation Against Software Theft : 05 February, 2009  (New Product)
The rise in popularity of SaaS models have given rise to a number of myths and inaccuracies to be addressed at conference on the subject in March
Leading IT experts will share valuable insight on how UK enterprises can use Virtualisation to their advantage at the 'Software as a Service - Myth or reality?' event, to be held on Thursday, 12 March 2009.

The event will focus on the widespread adoption of virtualisation, the development of commercial service oriented infrastructures and the incredible diversity of web services changing the IT landscape. It is being organised in partnership with FAST IiS, Grid Computing Now! and Intellect.

Guest speakers include:

1. John Pyke, Chief Strategy Officer, Cordys, the global software provider;

2. Hamish Edwards, Co-founder & UK Managing Director, Xero;

3. James Murfin, Mural Consulting;

4. Dai Davis, Brooke North, LLP; and

5. Andrew Hartshorne, Shakespeare Putsman, LLP.

Ian Osborne, Project Director at Grid Computing Now! says: "The event targets software publishers faced with the major changes taking place within the industry, including Virtualisation and cloud based computing, and the new demands from its customers for more effective management of software. Many organisations do not have the resources and specialist skills to manage the maze of software applications that exist today, and many software publishers are intimidated by the challenge of providing an online business critical software service. The new breed of cloud service providers can bridge that gap and unlock streams of revenue, while assuring both the user and publisher alike that they are getting a fair price".

John Lovelock, Chief Executive at FAST IiS comments: "We are delighted to partner this event as it raises important issues enterprises must consider as SaaS looks set to radically impact the industry. It's vital our members have an opportunity to learn how new software delivery models can help them add business value for their customers, and the legal and contractual issues that need to be considered in bringing them to market".

John Higgins, Director General of Intellect comments: "The SaaS revolution and the emergence of technologies such as Virtualisation has enabled the evolution of new business models both within the software sector, and through the sectors of its customers. Understanding the changes and trends in this area will ensure UK enterprise is ahead of the curve and well placed to innovate out of the current downturn. Intellect is pleased to be working in partnership with FAST IiS and Grid Computing Now!, and will continue to work with members to promote the benefits of SaaS".
