Compound threats under discussion at Mobile World Congress

New global compound threats, combining multiple attack vectors such as SMS and malware, will be unveiled by AdaptiveMobile at this year’s Mobile Security Forum at Mobile World Congress. The world leader in mobile security, will be hosting a session that will bring together a panel of industry experts to discuss how to work together to tackle these threats.

AdaptiveMobile’s Chief Operating Officer, Gareth Maclachlan will be hosting the session which will take place at 11.45am on Monday 25th February, Hall 8.0 Theatre District, Theatre A. As part of the discussions Paul Whiteing, Chief Executive of leading telecom regulator, PhonepayPlus will also be announcing a new initiative with GSMA and other industry bodies to develop and test incident management processes for dealing with malware attacks. The workshop for invited telecoms and security representatives, to be facilitated by Copper Horse Solutions, will focus on processes for incident handling, to ensure rapid detection and takedown of premium SMS mobile malware attacks.

“In an age where cross-border, multi-bearer threats combining SMS and malware are an everyday occurrence, security has never been more important,” said Gareth Maclachlan, COO of AdaptiveMobile.” The Mobile Security Forum at MWC is a great opportunity for us to reveal the results from our latest Global Security Insights in Mobile report highlighting the scale of the issue and to share ideas and discuss measures we can put in place to combat these increasingly sophisticated threats.”

“PhonepayPlus is proactively tackling mobile malware which takes money from consumers by illegitimate use of premium SMS shortcodes,” said Paul Whiteing Chief Executive at PhonepayPlus. “Phonepayplus is the only telecoms regulator to have taken action against premium SMS mobile malware and we’re looking forward to discussing the measures we’re putting in place with the industry at MWC.”
