Communication Director appointed at FAST.

The Federation Against Software Theft : 14 January, 2008  (Company News)
The Federation Against Software Theft has created the role of Communications Director to deliver FAST's software protection message.
Bob Fenton has been appointed to the newly created role of Communications Director at The Federation Against Software Theft (The Federation). This is the first time that The Federation has appointed a seasoned communications professional to a position that is aimed at driving home the message that The Federation is at the forefront of protecting software IP in the UK.

A key element of the role will be assisting Chief Executive John Lovelock in educating corporate Britain about the legal ramifications of software theft, as well as communicating the vital education function The Federation performs on behalf of the UK software industry.

John Lovelock, Chief Executive of The Federation, commented: "We are delighted that Bob has joined the team. This appointment allows The Federation to expand its efforts to communicate the legal issues surrounding the use of software, furthering our aim to educate users about the rights of software developers and how the use of legal software safeguards jobs and tax revenues."

Lovelock continued: "Bob brings a wealth of experience to The Federation having come to us from a variety of public and private sector positions. I am confident that he will bring the drive and energy to continue our fight."

Bob moved to The Federation from the Government education technology agency BECTA and has also held roles at British Energy and within the FMCG and rail industries. He has a history of delivering successful corporate communications and is well versed in governmental lobbying and strategic industry planning.

Bob said: "The creative industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK, so it is a good time to be involved, and to influence its future. As a new position at The Federation, the role offers the chance to shape and deliver its communications policy to the betterment of the sector and the UK economy."

Bob concluded: "The big challenge is to help to change a view held by many people and organisations who do not believe that buying or using unlicensed software is a crime. It is, and many people's livelihoods depend on this sector."
