Officially launching at IFSEC 2012, Norbain will be able to offer customers “my-nvc”, a subscription-based service for video hosting in the cloud . Aimed at residential and SME applications, my-nvc provides a number of advantages over traditional on-site recording solutions. my-nvc compatible cameras are installed, keeping the initial investment low, and no local recording hardware is required. Images are stored in the cloud at a data centre and can be accessed at any time by logging on using a PC or mobile device . All that is required to connect the cameras to the cloud is a standard internet connection.
The cameras are extremely quick and simple to set up thanks to the auto-install feature, meaning that there is no need for IP configuration to be entered manually. As to the cameras themselves, the service is compatible with a number of major brands, including my-nvc, Axis, Vivotek and Panasonic.
“The service represents a great opportunity for our installers to offer new services to new or existing markets,” comments Andrew Pigram, Norbain’s technical director. “The initial cost of equipment in these markets has, up until now, been prohibitive. But my-nvc offers the flexibility needed to generate a monthly, recurring revenue stream for the installer. For the end user, it provides a cost-effective security service that doesn’t fill their premises with recording boxes that require space and maintenance. The joy of the service is also that, because it utilises mobile technology that end users already own and are comfortable operating, it breaks down the traditional cost and technical barriers to entry.”
Visitors to IFSEC are invited to come to the Norbain stand where they will be able to see the service in action. A seminar on the subject will also run on the Norbain stand across all four days of the show.
