Cloud Adoption Increase Prediction Backed Up By CIF

Cloud Industry Froum (CIF) : 29 January, 2011  (Company News)
The Cloud Industry Forum comments on the recent Gartner research predicting a 40% increase in the adoption of cloud computing services
Research from independent analyst house, Gartner, predicting businesses’ adoption of cloud services will expand rapidly over the next five years, has been supported by non-profit organisation, the Cloud Industry Forum (CIF). The Gartner 2011 CIO Survey predicts that over the next five years cloud adoption among CIOs will rise by 40%.

The chairman of the CIF group and Fasthosts’ CEO, Andy Burton, said: ”Cloud computing’s value proposition is huge and people are beginning to see this.  Predictions that there will be a 40% rise in adoption amongst CIOs is very encouraging for the industry and supports our vision that the cloud is on the verge of becoming mainstream for businesses of all sizes. Obstacles such as a lack of trust towards cloud computing has caused businesses to be reluctant to invest in cloud services. To overcome this, we have developed a straightforward Code of Practice to standardise cloud services and to certify cloud service providers.” http://www.cloudindustryforum.org/

Gartner’s survey, which used 2,014 CIO respondents representing over $160bn in corporate and public-sector IT spending, indicated that CIOs will need to ‘reimagine’ IT’s influence on business success. Gartner Executive Programs research head and group vice-president, Mark McDonald said, “The resource realities indicated in the 2011 CIO Agenda Survey raise the urgency and importance of adopting a new infrastructure and operations technologies, such as cloud services and virtualisation.”

Andy continued: “If the survey results prove to be correct, the next five years will dispel the negative myths about loss of control and security as professional service vendors will thrive and the customers that rely on them will become more technically agile and cost efficient. With cloud service providers offering a pay-as-you-use model along with improved service levels, and, portable devices enabling anytime, anywhere use, cloud technology is set to reduce costs, increase scalability and change the way businesses operate and adapt dramatically.

“CIF is committed to continue its work to educate businesses and individuals on the cloud and how to invest in secure and reliable cloud services whilst avoiding the less transparent providers so that the industry can continue to thrive,” concluded Andy.
