Centrally managed data security for healthcare provider

BeCrypt : 13 January, 2010  (Application Story)
Care UK private medical company chooses Becrypt to provide user-transparent full disk encryption and data protection for its large inventory of laptop computers
Becrypt announces its partnership with Care UK, an independent provider of health and social care, to provide a range of security solutions, enabling Care UK to enhance compliance with government and NHS legislation as well as safeguard company data and its employees.

Care UK selected Becrypt from a trial of three security providers, to implement its DISK Protect and Enterprise Manager solutions across its laptop inventory. Becrypt DISK Protect provides disk encryption and will be rolled out to the company's entire laptop inventory (more than 500 laptops), using Becrypt's Enterprise Manager's central management capabilities.

To work along side the NHS it is essential to comply with appropriate legislation for data protection. DISK Protect's FIPS accreditation has helped Care UK to meet and exceed government data security compliance requirements.

DISK Protect has initially been installed on each machine separately with dual factor authentication using Active Directory. In future it will be rolled out automatically from Becrypt Enterprise Manager with single sign on, in order to make it as transparent to the user as possible.

"The company has grown considerably over recent years, which has meant that our hardware estate has increased considerably and we wanted to implement an enhanced security solution that would safeguard data against accidental loss and theft across the estate," said Owain Jones, IM&T Project Manager, Care UK. "Becrypt's solutions enable us to be fully FIPS compliant whilst being easy to use. It also allows us to include PDAs and other hardware platforms."

"Our partnership with Care UK shows that compliance with government regulations can be done simply and effectively," said Bernard Parsons, CEO, Becrypt. "For companies like Care UK, it is important for security solutions to fit into existing IT infrastructures whilst being straightforward for employees to use. Becrypt's solutions are easily scalable and ensure data is protected whilst employees are working remotely."
