Calyx warns internal threat increases

Calyx : 03 June, 2009  (Technical Article)
Securing information assets internally is becoming increasingly important as employees under threat of job losses become more of a threat to data security according to Calyx
Calyx is warning organisations that the managing, monitoring and protection of sensitive data is essential in a tough economic climate, and it's not just external sources that organisations need to protect their confidential information from. With job losses looming over the coming months, disgruntled employees can pose a more real security threat than any external source.

Many industry analysts have revealed that investment in security spending has decreased in the past year and predicts this trend will continue.

Tara Brady, CEO, Calyx said: "We know security is seen as a cost centre, and traditionally it has always been difficult to demonstrate a Return on Investment (ROI) on security expenditure, but a company's information assets are even more vulnerable in these recessionary times.

"Organisations are currently spending less on IT security at a time when it is arguably more important than ever to ensure confidential documents are kept secure. It is understandable that organisations are trying to reduce costs but it is essential to have the security measures in place to ensure that an unhappy employee doesn't walk away with company confidential information. Identity and access management solutions will help prevent unscrupulous individuals from accessing information that isn't intended for their viewing."

With the recession currently showing little sign of easing, Calyx predicts that a rise in internal security breeches is inevitable over the next eighteen months and that the solution for organisations looking to decrease their IT spend, whilst at the same time optimising their security, is to outsource it to a managed services provider.

Calyx works with organisations to secure their business assets and believes that security also means ensuring that services are always available to staff, customers, suppliers or partners. From design and implementation to support, monitoring and management, Calyx Security provides a single point of contact for securing complex networks.

Calyx's customers include many key commercial and government departments, NHS Trusts, Local Authorities and commercial enterprises.
