BYOD Seminar To Be Held in Berkshire

European E-Identity Management Conference : 03 July, 2012  (Company News)
The seminar being run by the European Association For E-identity and Security brings together bring-you-own-device experts
The European association for e-identity and security, EEMA, is bringing together world leading experts to discuss the secure use of smart mobile devices in private and public sector organisations. The one-day seminar will examine the key security, practice and policy issues relating to the popularity of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). The seminar takes place on Thursday 5th July and is open to EEMA members (free of charge) and non-members (€100), and will be hosted by Research In Motion (RIM) at its office in Slough, Berkshire.

The agenda for the seminar includes a presentation from Patrick Michaelis, Senior Product Manager BlackBerry Security EMEA at RIM, who will discuss smartphone security. He will be joined by Cesare Gariati, VP of Mobile Security at Trend Micro for a comparison of mobile platforms and Dr. Hans-Christroph Quelle, Managing Director of Secusmart GmbH who will consider safety from interception for smartphones. Looking ahead, Sarb Sembhi, Director of Consulting Services at Incoming Thought will assess data breaches, trends and future vulnerabilities.

A highlight of the day will be a rare live hacking demonstration given by James Lyne, Director of Technology Strategy at Sophos.

Mike Gibson, Senior Director, Enterprise, RIM: “BYOD is a defining trend in the enterprise mobility market and presents both opportunities and challenges to organisations. Chief among these challenges is the ongoing protection of company data. As the enterprise mobility market evolves, it is vital that organisations are equipped with the right technology to help ensure that their information remains secure. Building on our industry leadership in this space, our recently launched Mobile Fusion solution offers end-to-end management of BlackBerry devices, as well as those running on iOS and Android, which we believe will help IT departments to effectively manage the BYOD trend and address the key challenges which it poses.”

In addition to the expert views of technology vendors, the seminar will also include presentations from Dragan Pendrig, responsible for the security architecture at Diageo, discussing BYOD along with the changing culture in the enterprise and how to raise user awareness. Also, Detective Inspector Eamonn Kean from the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency e-Crime Unit will present experiences of mobile forensic investigations.

Roger Dean, Executive Director at EEMA explains the significance of the seminar: “With the rise of tablets and smartphones, it remains of fundamental importance to control, manage and protect these mobile devices and the data which they store. Organisations which take the right steps to mitigate the potential security risks which mobile data consumption can pose will stand to benefit from the advantages which can be derived from a BYOD strategy.”
