Business continuity plan invoked during postal strike

Eclipse Internet : 22 October, 2009  (Company News)
Eclipse Internet has switched to alternative delivery methods to maintain customer satisfaction levels in the UK during the two-day postal strike
With a two day postal strike planned underway, Eclipse Internet is putting its business continuity plan into action to minimise the impact the strike has on its customers.

Businesses across the UK will be seriously affected if they don't have a business continuity plan in place including an appropriate technology solution.

John Cridland, Deputy-Director General of the CBI, the UK's leading business organisation said of the strike: "After a very tough year, serious disruption to the postal service would present a real threat to those firms pinning their hopes on a pre-Christmas sales bounce. We need common sense to prevail and lasting damage to be avoided."

And Eclipse is no different, it sends large volumes of computer hardware to customers every week using the postal service, so to counteract any disruption from the strike Eclipse has switched delivery partner.

Clodagh Murphy, Director of Eclipse explains: "Business continuity planning can range from altering delivery partners to relocating your business operation and employee workplace. Most often, the key to keeping your business running smoothly is to have the right technology solutions in place.

"This postal strike will highlight which businesses are better able to cope in the event of any problems and challenges. Disruptions to operations from the unexpected, such as fire, theft and more recently Swine Flu, continue to be a threat to small businesses and it is essential that both owners and employees consider the implications."

Whilst increasing numbers of large private and public sector organisations are adopting technology services which enable staff to work remotely, Eclipse believe that the majority of smaller businesses are not taking business continuity risks seriously enough.

Clodagh continues: "We offer a dedicated microsite, which helps small businesses understand what technology services and solutions would best support their own business continuity needs such as remote working with on-line collaboration tools. Products such as SharePoint and Hosted Exchange allow businesses, partners and suppliers to share documents and communicate with their customers, perfect for when traditional postal mail is not an option."
