Bus-based detector wiring offers infrastructure cost savings

Risco Group USA : 23 September, 2009  (New Product)
Alarm sensor cabling costs can be significantly reduced on large installations using the ProSYS FreeCom control panel and bus system from RISCO Group USA
RISCO Group USA is offering a flexible, simple-to-install, large-scale commercial security solution using a bus transmission path. In RISCO Group's solution, which is built around the company's ProSYS.FreeCom control panel, multiple signals travel along a single cable path and addressable devices (alarm sensors) recognize their appropriate signals. Benefits of the system from RISCO Group USA include less equipment, simpler wiring and cabling, less time and money to install, and availability of remote services to streamline installation and provide diagnostics. The system operates from a responsive and intuitive touchscreen user interface.

To emphasize the benefits of the technology, RISCO Group USA provides a "Bus Savings Calculator" that translates information on a system configuration - number of zones, number of potential bus detectors - into an installation scenario offering maximum savings, including materials and labour, system programming and testing, fewer maintenance visits, etc.

"The RISCO Bus solution using our breakthrough addressable Bus detectors provides huge savings in installation and maintenance costs," said Len Friedman, President and CEO of RISCO Group USA. "Integrators can install systems using less manpower, which adds to profits and frees up personnel for other projects. For the user, the system is easy to use and more cost-effective as well."

As the control panel in the overall RISCO Bus solution, ProSYS.FreeCom provides an integrated security system meeting high security requirements as well as dual-path communications. PSTN, IP and GSM/GPRS are all included in the main box and no third party solution is required. Providing flexible installation and all-in-one communication, the system can be integrated with RISCO Group USA's SynopSYS Integrated Security and Building Management System for full command and control, streamlined event handling and one-stop post-event analysis.

Bus detectors are wired to the ProSYS.FreeCom panel using a 4-core alarm cable in any wiring topology - serial, star or spur. RISCO Group USA's Grade 3 detector portfolio includes the iWISE BUS indoor PIR QUAD and Dual Technology detectors, the Industrial LuNAR high-ceiling mount detector, the WatchIN industrial detector and the WatchOut outdoor detector.

There is an abundance of possible configurations using the technology. Up to 128 Bus detectors are installed in series on an F-core alarm cable, thus eliminating the need to raw cables from a panel or zone expander to each detector. The iWISE BUS detectors include an extra relay zone that allows an add-on detector to save on wiring back to the panel. Star and spur layouts can be split from any Bus detector. Wireless detectors and accessories are accommodated. For large-scale installations above 32 zones, Bus Zone Expanders are used to achieve full site coverage of up to 128 zones, and each Bus Zone Expander module can be configured to support 8, 16, 24 or 32 Bus zones.

Bus detectors can be programmed entirely from the keypad or can be programmed remotely without an on-site visit using upload/download software. Problem-solving diagnostics can be conducted from an off-site location based on the remote diagnostics capabilities.
