BSIA award for G4S contract manager

G4S Secure Solutions (UK And Ireland) : 22 March, 2013  (Company News)
Manager for G4S contract with Carnival cruise company gains BSIA regional award for exceptional customer service
BSIA award for G4S contract manager

G4S manager Elaine Smith has been presented with the BSIA award for ‘Service to the Customer’ in the South East region.

Elaine, age 58, works as the manager on G4S Secure Solutions’ contract with cruise company Carnival UK at the Port of Southampton. The award recognises Elaine’s long-standing track record of excellent service to the customer which includes her exceptional attention to detail, reliability and inspirational team leadership.

In particular, it recognises Elaine’s achievement for outstanding leadership in coordinating security at P&O Cruises’ 175th anniversary in July last year. Helping to make the day a runaway success for P&O (within the Carnival UK group), Elaine oversaw security and safety arrangements as a fleet of seven cruise ships entered the Port of Southampton. The celebrations saw a staggering 15,000 passengers climb aboard the fleet, cheered on by thousands of well-wishers, as G4S employees ensured that all passengers boarded their ships via a number of terminals safely and securely.

Elaine’s months of work in establishing teamwork between G4S, Associated British Ports, the police, local authorities in Southampton and Carnival Cruises ensured the event went smoothly. After today’s presentation, Elaine will go forward to
BSIA national judges to consider the next phase of the awards; if successful she will receive a national award on 16th July at the BSIA’s annual lunch.

Elaine, who lives locally in Southampton, commented on her award by saying: “I am thoroughly delighted to receive this award for doing the job I love at G4S. Our customers are great and it’s a real pleasure to work with them, making sure everything runs as smoothly, efficiently and effectively as possible.”

“My approach has always been to put yourself in your clients’ shoes because without that level of understanding you can’t deliver a first-class tailored service. Fortunately, I have a fantastic team around me and I feel this award reflects their work too. It’s thoroughly rewarding to know you have delivered for your customer but scooping a
BSIA award helps too!”

Janine Lewis, Home Port Operations Manager at Carnival UK, who backed Elaine’s nomination, added: “I have worked with Elaine for the best part of eight years now. She is truly one of the most dedicated and passionate colleagues I have ever had the good fortune to work with.

“There are times when Elaine is not just someone who we employ, but I see her very much as an extension of my team. She’s always a step ahead, knows how we think and generally has already done something before we’ve had to ask.”
