Bridge strike detection for US railway operator.

Duos Technologies : 08 November, 2007  (Application Story)
Vibration sensors pick up bridge strikes on railway crossing with automatic video-coupled verification to alert railway operator.
Duos Technologies has been awarded a contract valued in excess of $380,000 by a Class I US railway to deploy its Collision Alert Monitoring and Impact Analysis (CAMIA) system at a rail bridge spanning a major western US waterway.

The Duos-developed CAMIA system utilises a bank of vibration and acceleration sensors to detect the slightest impact along a bridge structure. A series of strategically located, high-definition cameras will record any event and provide forensic evidence to the rail operator. The system automatically verifies actual impacts. Sensor data from the alarm event is simultaneously coupled with recorded video of the impact and then dispatched to multiple control points, including central command and control.

"Rail operators typically suffer substantial losses from hit and run activity by maritime vessels that strike bridge structures, often with enough force to shift rail tracks out of alignment. Consequences can be severe. Our system acts as a constant guardian of such structures, immediately alerting the rail operator to prevent significant damage, and documenting actual events for prosecution of the perpetrator," said Gianni Arcaini, Duos Technologies CEO.

The rail transportation industry continues to recognise Duos' ability to design and deploy customized security solutions. This contract is the latest in a series of significant awards generated from technologies that Duos designed specifically for the transportation sector.
