Blank Subject Line Latest Spam Tactic

Symantec : 14 June, 2010  (Technical Article)
Symantec has highlighted the latest spam techniques being used to lure readers into opening unwanted e-mails including leaving the subject line of the message blank
Symantec's June State of Spam and Phishing report has highlighted that spammers are now perhaps becoming more desperate and less creative in their attempts to trick email users into opening their messages. A blank email subject line was the most favoured tactic used in May, closely followed by the rather desperate 'Please Read' heading.

The following trends are also all highlighted in the June 2010 report:

* EMEA continues to expand its spam market share with almost half of all spam (48.1%) sent from this region

* Spam originating from .ru (Russia) domains rocketed to 34.1% of all messages in May (up from 22.1% in April)

The report also takes a detailed look at how cyber criminals are using the popularity of social networks to perpetrate a wide variety of scams.
