Bit9 Expands Into Government Sector

Bit9 : 11 November, 2010  (Company News)
The public sector channel for Bit9 has been expanded to reflect the growth in government demand for targeted malware prevention
Bit9 has announced significant growth of its public sector channel, fueled by federal government demand for its technology that combats targeted attacks and malware. This year, the company has won numerous new government contracts, signed key partners and has seen increasing customer demand across the intelligence, Department of Defense (DoD), civilian and prime integrator sectors.

Highlights of this expansion include:

* Numerous government-wide acquisition contracts (GWACs) spanning GSA, NASA SEWP, and Defense IDIQ contract vehicles ENCORE II (small & large business), ITES-2S and NETCENTS
* Strategic alliances with federally focused organizations including CACI, Iron Bow Technologies, Lockheed Martin IS&GS and TKC IS
* Partnerships with Guidance Software and Mandiant
* Integrations with ArcSight, BigFix and Symantec
* Evaluation for certification to Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 2+
* Strong commitment to preventing targeted cyber attacks with recent launch of Bit9 Cyber Forensics Service

Bit9 specializes in advanced threat protection to secure organizations from targeted malware and threats. The Advanced Persistent Threat targets end users and employs email, blogs, instant messaging, podcasts and other collaborative resources as breach points for distributing malware. Government agencies need to ensure their employees have access to every technology necessary for success and productivity while operating within a safe and reliable environment.

"I have first-hand knowledge of the effectiveness of Bit9's solution," said Ray Harris, CIO of Iron Bow Technologies. "Traditional antivirus solutions are facing an uphill battle because the quantity of malware signatures is growing exponentially. Bit9's cyber forensics offering and proactive whitelisting approach provide the foundation our customers need to battle the Advanced Persistent Threat."

Additionally, industry veteran Rick Simmons joins Bit9's government team as director of Federal Sales. Simmons has a successful track record that includes more than 30 years in sales management at enterprise software solutions, professional services and managed services to the federal government, state and local governments, federal systems integrators, higher education institutions and Fortune 500 companies.

"As we expand our presence in the federal sector, we are looking to protect not only agencies from cyber threats but also their employees," said Rick Simmons. "Some federal organizations can have as many as 150,000 endpoints. All it takes is one person using a program or portable storage device they don't realize is malicious, and there is the risk of a federal breach that exposes the entire agency. Bit9's enhanced government focus is another step in the ongoing war to stop this type of targeted cyber attack."
