Biometric palm recognition secures storage units at BlueVault

Fujitsu Services : 08 March, 2013  (Application Story)
A secure storage facility in San Diego has taken the biometric route to high security access control using vascular pattern recognition in the palm of the user's hand
Biometric palm recognition secures storage units at BlueVault

Fujitsu Frontech North America has installed the PalmEntry Physical Access Control system at BlueVault in San Diego. In addition to its other high-end retail elements, BlueVault provides maximum-security storage units for the public’s most valuable or important items. The PalmEntry system is a secure, contactless, biometric access control solution that positively authenticates the identity of an individual. The PalmEntry solution was chosen by BlueVault because of its fast, non-intrusive, spoof-proof technology that allows BlueVault customers to access their valuables through a quick, highly secure palm scan.

“We are very pleased with the performance of the PalmEntry solution and our partnership with Fujitsu. The PalmEntry system is a solution that reinforces the kind of image we want to project as a technology leader in the ultra-secure storage and safe deposit box space,” according to Jon Sandhaus, Founder, BlueVault. “Over the next 12 months we plan on opening three new locations in Southern California and will be installing the PalmEntry solution in each of our new locations.”

The PalmEntry system relies on Fujitsu’s award-winning PalmSecure biometric technology. The Fujitsu PalmSecure biometric palm vein sensors use a near-infrared light to capture a user’s palm vein pattern, generating a unique biometric template that is matched against the palm vein patterns of pre-registered users. Unlike other readers, the PalmSecure device does not come into contact with the skin, making it extremely hygienic, non-intrusive and unrestricted by external factors such as skin types and conditions. Registration for the PalmEntry system takes less than one minute and authentication takes less than one second.

“We are delighted that BlueVault has chosen the Fujitsu PalmEntry access control system as one of the key components in their overall access and security strategy,” according to Randy Fox, senior director, currency handling and identification product solutions, Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. “The PalmEntry solution provides BlueVault a level of unparalleled security and privacy for their customers. From their greeting by the security concierge at the entrance, to their imposing blue vault, they are clearly different than your local neighborhood bank or storage facility when it comes to protecting your valuables.”

Fujitsu’s family of biometric solutions, PalmSecure, PalmSecure for SSO (single sign-on) and PalmEntry Physical Access Control, all utilize the award winning technology. The palm vein device can only recognize the pattern if the blood is actively flowing within the individual’s veins, which means that forgery is virtually impossible. This advanced, vascular pattern recognition technology not only provides highly reliable authentication with low false accept and reject rates, but also generates fast and easy enrolment.
