Biometric mouse for fingerprint access to computers

Cherry Electrical Products : 14 October, 2008  (New Product)
At Biometrics 2008 in London, Cherry Electrical Products will be demonstrating its M-4200 mouse equipped with fingerprint sensor and biometric template storage
Cherry Electrical Products has launched the M-4200 FingerTIP ID mouse, which incorporates sophisticated biometrics technology to enable users to log on to their PC or laptop machine using their own fingerprint as identification, obviating any need for difficult-to-recall user IDs and passwords and securing the system from unauthorized users. Using biometric identification has the additional advantage of saving time and frustration as users no longer have to phone their IT support department to request a new logon or password, which often occurs if they are frequently changed.

The M-4200 FingerTIP ID mouse incorporates a TCS2 TouchChip sensor developed by UKEP the global leader in biometric fingerprint security solutions. Placed in the upper body of the device, the sensor reads each user's unique fingerprint and can match it with fingertip identification records stored on the mouse itself, as the device has its own memory. This provides a much greater level of security than matching to records stored on the PC, as the templates on the mouse cannot be accessed by hackers. The sensor also features UPEK's patented active capacitance sensing technology which delivers a higher signal-to-noise ratio than passive sensing and is protected with a coating which is almost five times thicker than that of other silicon sensors on the market today.

Featuring three buttons and a pressable scroll wheel, the wired M4200 FingerTIP ID mouse uses 800 dpi optical technology for superior precision control. Available in a smart silver/black housing, the mouse is guaranteed for two years and requires Windows 2000, 2003, XP or Linux operating systems and a USB interface. It is also approved for Microsoft WHQL Windows (tm) XP and by FCC, GS, CE, UL, and VCCI.
