Biometric Identity Management Features on ASUS Netbook

AuthenTec : 06 April, 2010  (Application Story)
The TruePrint fingerprint sensor and TrueSuite identity management software are bringing biometric strength security to the new ASUS Netbook with the added advantage of one-touch power and identity control
ASUS has introduced the world's first netbook to incorporate AuthenTec's TruePrint smart sensor and TrueSuite identity management software, the new Eee PC 1018P. The AES1660 TruePrint smart sensor and complementary TrueSuite identity management software are among AuthenTec's growing consumer notebook and netbook offerings, and part of the Company's strategy to introduce new sensors and software to address opportunities in this growing market segment.

According to IDC, netbooks had a breakthrough year in 2009, with over 30 million units shipped - up from the 10 million netbooks shipped in 2008. For 2010, IDC forecasts that nearly 40 million netbooks will ship.

"AuthenTec's smart sensor and TrueSuite software is an excellent turnkey addition to our Eee PC 1018P, offering users one-touch access to their digital identity and favorites," said James Tung, ASUS Deputy Product Director. "We continue to build on our leadership in the netbook market with innovative functions and features, and are extremely pleased to be the first to market with AuthenTec's all-in-one security and identity management solution."

"ASUS is a leader in the fastest growing segment of the consumer PC market, netbooks. The combination of our AES1660 smart sensor and TrueSuite identity management software is specifically targeted at a rich and intuitive user experience for the consumer, and we are excited that the first netbook to integrate our TrueSuite-smart sensor solution is the innovative ASUS Eee PC 1018P," said AuthenTec Vice President of PC Products, Tom Aebli. "ASUS has been a loyal and longstanding AuthenTec customer, and we think it's a testament to their netbook leadership to be the first to offer this unique touch-powered solution to consumers and other highly mobile netbook users."

The Eee PC 1018P is the second ASUS netbook to integrate an AuthenTec sensor; the Eee PC 1004DN was the world's first fingerprint-enabled netbook, and incorporated AuthenTec's AES1610 sensor. At 0.7 inches (18mm) when closed, the aluminum-clad Eee PC 1018P is ASUS' thinnest netbook to date, and is equipped with Windows 7 Starter, a choice of Intel's 1.6 GHz N455 or 1.83 GHz N475 Atom Processors, 1 GB of RAM, a 250 GB Hard Disk Drive, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, and a high-definition 10.1-inch screen.

AuthenTec's AES1660 TruePrint smart sensor offers the expanded functionality, biometric performance, low-power consumption, multiple packaging and form factor options, and low bill of materials cost needed for easy integration into consumer notebooks and netbooks. This 128-pixel wide sensor incorporates LED drivers for enhanced PC user feedback including programmable alerts and notifications.

TrueSuite is AuthenTec's identity management software application which is tailored for consumer PC and netbook users who demand simplicity, improved usability, and one-touch access to their digital identity and social networks. TrueSuite is optimized for Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system and is expected to be integrated into multiple new laptop models, including ASUS EeePC 1018P, during 2010.

AuthenTec is an ISO9001-certified provider of fingerprint sensors and solutions with the broadest product and IP portfolio in the silicon fingerprint sensor industry with 144 US patents issued and pending (as well as additional foreign patents). AuthenTec recently expanded its offering to include complete solutions for security, identity management and touch control via its new smart sensor hardware, software, and client applications as well as new products and IP from the Company's recent acquisition of SafeNet's Embedded Security Solutions Division.
