Biometric credentialing contract for New York Port

Intellicheck Mobilisa : 17 December, 2009  (Application Story)
Intellicheck Mobilisa has been awarded the Transportation Worker Identity Credential contract for providing Government approved biometric identification for port workers in the New York and New Jersey areas
Intellicheck Mobilisa have been awarded a contract with the Port of New York/New Jersey to supply them with mobile Transportation Worker Identity Credential (TWIC) readers and access control systems to support the Department of Homeland Security TWIC Pilot project.

Dr Nelson Ludlow, CEO of Intellicheck Mobilisa, said, "I think everyone can recognize the value of supporting the Port of New York/New Jersey in increasing their security measures. As one of the nation's busiest port facilities, with facilities located in the heart of Manhattan, they are particularly vulnerable to security threats. We are very excited to be working with them as they implement the new TWIC security measures."

The Transportation Worker Identity Credential, or TWIC, program is a Transportation Security Administration and US Coast Guard initiative that provides tamper-resistant biometric identification cards to port facility workers. TWIC cards have become a mandatory requirement for access to all US ports as of April 15, 2009. The Intellicheck Mobilisa TWIC reader handheld device is used to validate TWIC credentials; the company believes such a universal reader will ultimately be needed at each of the more than 175 seaports in the United States.

"Intellicheck Mobilisa was among the first to offer a Department of Homeland Security TWIC reader. Our mobile TWIC platform is the first of its kind to be implemented in the field. Given our Defense ID System is a proven commodity in use at military bases throughout the US, we are confident that our TWIC reader will see the same level of success throughout our nation's port facilities," stated Steve Williams, COO of Intellicheck Mobilisa.
