Best in test recognition for Sourcefire products

Sourcefire : 08 April, 2009  (New Product)
3D System from Sourcefire achieves 2009 best of tests award from Network World
Open source innovator and Snort creator, Sourcefire has announced that the Sourcefire 3D System was named one of Network World's "2009 Best of Tests" winners. The sole winner in the security category, the Sourcefire 3D System was recognized for its ability to make network protection easier and more effective.

"Sourcefire is committed to providing our customers with the strongest and most efficient security solutions on the market and this recognition from Network World highlights our leadership," said Michele Perry, Chief Marketing Officer at Sourcefire. "As organizations face an ever increasing number of emerging threats, Sourcefire continues to deliver innovative solutions that proactively protect our customers' physical and virtual systems."

Network World's Lab Alliance members tested over 150 products in 2008, with 13 rising to the top of the list. Editors chose these products based on their performance, usability and enterprise feature functionality. The Sourcefire 3D System, which received a 4 out of 5 score, was recognized for its ease of use and functionality. Network World states:

"Sourcefire's 3D System goes a long way in making the security information served up in IDS and IPS systems digestible and ultimately more useful to an enterprise security professional."

Network World also included Snort and ClamAV in a slideshow of Windows Open Source products, recognizing the popularity of the tools and their impact on the open source community. Since its launch in 1998, Snort has become the de facto standard in intrusion protection, with over 225,000 active users and 3.7 million downloads to date.

ClamAV is one of the most commonly used open source anti-malware solutions in the world with over two million unique IP addresses downloading updates daily from 120 mirror servers located in 44 countries.

Sourcefire is consistently recognized for its innovation and industry leadership with more than 40 awards and accolades to date. Most recently, Sourcefire was named to the Deloitte Fast 500 list, recognizing the company's growth over the last five years. In addition, Martin Roesch was named one of eWeek's Top 100 Most Influential People in IT, and Sourcefire was named a finalist in two categories at the 2009 SC Magazine Awards.
