Automatic web based back-up system.

Connect : 23 January, 2008  (New Product)
On line back up and recovery system operates at any time, unaffected by open files and includes automatic encryption.
Connect has launched a new online backup service - called Total Recall - that lets businesses back up all their files automatically over the internet. In addition, if a server goes down, Total Recall allows every employee to continue working, amending key documents, accessing databases and using email. The new service costs from £83 a month and is primarily targeted at companies using outdated back up tapes. According to recent research by the Institute of Directors, 51% of SMEs keep their back ups on site, leaving little protection in case of damage or theft.

Key features of Total Recall:.

* Automatically encrypts and saves all files held on a company's servers at regular intervals throughout the day and night.

* Allows every employee to continue working on their files - and sending and receiving new emails - if their servers go down.

* Costs from £83 a month (for companies with under 10 employees).

* Does not clog up bandwidth, as each backup only saves the most recent changes to any file (including open documents).

* Backs up online to two data centres in different parts of the country.

Mark MacGregor, CEO of Connect, said, "These figures from the Institute of Directors are worryingly high. Back up tapes may have been around since Elvis was still on stage but businesses have been reluctant to switch because of concerns about the cost and security of online alternatives. Total Recall has been designed to provide a low cost service that keeps a company's data totally secure. Total Recall also allows employees to continue working even if their server has gone down - amending files over the internet, either in the office or at home, and sending and receiving new emails. With prices starting from only £83 a month, it is the perfect solution to give any SME complete peace of mind."

Connect believes that part of the appeal of the new service is its pricing scheme. Unlike its competitors, Total Recall is charging for the service by the number of employees and not by the amount of data. MacGregor believes that the cost of Total Recall is comparable to the annual replacement costs of back up tapes, tape drives and software and for a far better service.
