The Birmingham NEC arena has undergone re-branding and refurbishment including access and turnstile systems from Kaba
Automated entry system for rebranded LG Arena
Recently The NEC Arena in Birmingham has been undergoing a transformation as part of a £28 million funding package that includes a major sponsorship deal with the global electronics giants LG. Today, the newly rebranded LG Arena continues the legacy that The NEC Arena began, welcoming and entertaining over one million visitors each year and continuing to be one of the UK's top arena destinations.

The development required an automated entry system that would provide visitors with simple and safe entry whilst ensuring only valid ticket-holders could gain access to the arena. It was also specified that the designated system must have the capability to operate with various ticket entry systems.

For over thirty years, the name Kaba stands for proven competence in physical access control. Kaba provide innovative solutions for the access to buildings, rooms and premises including access control supported by staff supervision and single file access to high security public areas. Kaba has successfully installed security door and turnstile solutions in numerous arenas and stadiums.

Subsequently, Kaba was invited to provide a solution that could meet all of these requirements. Our tried-and-tested control technology regulates the flow of people with ease, even during the busiest periods of the day. Kerberos tripod barriers are compatible with all types of ID readers and are available in six different designs.

In emergencies, designs with collapsible bars in both directions create an escape route. Thanks to patented technology the tripod barrier bars can be reset automatically to the normal position by authorised personnel as soon as the emergency is over.

Each of the turnstiles is enabled to validate entry once the visitor has scanned an authentic ticket or e-ticket at the adjoining reader.

NEC Group Arenas managing director Phil Mead commented, "We chose Kaba after a strict tendering process. We went to tender with a set of specifications, and finalists were interviewed by representative experts from across the business. Finalists were marked and the result was that Kaba was best for the job. Of particular interest was Kaba's ability to provide an emergency exit by the "dropping" of the tripod arms. More appealing was the fact that the turnstiles could automatically reset themselves".

Operating across the globe, Kaba has worked with some of the leading private and public sector organisations, specifying, designing, installing and maintaining highly sophisticated solutions
Kaba deliver real solutions around access control and access management that are able to meet the requirements of our customers today and able to develop with their needs for the future.
