Army order for mast mounted surveillance cameras

Gyrocam Systems : 20 May, 2008  (Application Story)
Vehicle mounted night vision, day vision and thermal imaging systems supplied by Gyrocam Systems to US troops overseas
Gyrocam Systems has announced that the US army has awarded the company a $302 million contract for Phase II of the Vehicle Optic Sensor System (VOSS) program, a network of night vision, day and thermal imaging cameras used by all US armed services to locate and stifle the threats of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The army officially awarded Gyrocam the contract on May 5.

"In a short time, Gyrocam has won multiple consecutive contracts with the Department of Defence that have resulted in getting vital equipment to soldiers as needed," said Darrell Egner, Chairman and CEO of Gyrocam Systems.

Since 2004, Gyrocam has provided the US army, marine corps, navy and the air force with more than 300 Gyrocam mast-mounted vehicle camera systems in both Iraq and Afghanistan, more than any other contractor.

Under the terms of the new contract, Gyrocam will deliver 500 additional cameras and provide sustainment and support services in Iraq and Afghanistan. The new equipment will provide troops with significantly enhanced situational awareness capabilities.

"Gyrocam offers a battle field proven solution with impressive operational readiness rates," said Mr Egner. "We have succeeded by focusing our efforts on what soldiers need to search, identify and engage in the fight against IEDs and insurgents. By building up critical inventory, we have been able to deploy fully integrated systems within a matter of weeks to anywhere in the world."

Gyrocam has a dedicated team of personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan that support the systems. This team has developed significant war zone experience in logistics, installation, training and additional field services.
