Army order for gunshot detection system

AAI Corporation : 03 December, 2008  (Application Story)
The US army has placed an order for PDCue Gunshot Detection Systems from AAI Corporation
AAI Corporation, an operating unit of Textron Systems has been awarded a 12-month contract valued at approximately $3 million by the US Army's Project Manager Soldier Weapons organisation for 50 Projectile Detection and Cueing (PDCue) gunshot detection systems.

Under the terms of the contract, PDCue will be integrated on an up-armored M1151 vehicle with the Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station, or CROWS II. The PDCue four-corner system incorporates modular design and open architecture to ensure seamless, plug-and-play integration of the system with weapon stations such as CROWS II. The integrated systems are expected to be fielded with the US Army overseas for operational evaluation.

The award calls for all 50 of the PDCue systems in the "four-corner" configuration, in which sensor clusters positioned at the four corners of a vehicle provide low-profile, 360-degree situational awareness. PDCue systems can instantly locate and track the source of single-shot, multiple-shot, and burst-fire events in any environment. The four-corner systems each will include sensors, the user display, and navigation units. AAI will provide technical support as part of the contract.

"PDCue is the only gunshot detection system being fielded in this configuration," explains AAI Vice President of Business Development and Advanced Systems David Phillips. "Together, the integrated PDCue and CROWS II system will provide military personnel with comprehensive, powerful situational awareness combined with the capability for fast and lethal response."
