Arla protects ERP data with Norman Network Protection.

Norman Security : 10 July, 2007  (Application Story)
Comprehensive network protection from Norman installed at European food manufacturer to ensure security of operational ERP data used on production network.
The Arla Foods Group is Europe's second largest dairy company, exclusively producing milk-based products with primary production sites in Sweden, Denmark and the UK.

As with most manufacturing operations, Arla utilise ERP systems that are increasingly integrated into the production network. So where in previous times the production network was isolated it is now in direct physical contact with the network and the Internet - which poses security risks that could impact on production.

In addition to this Arla had two other security concerns in opening up their production network:.

1 External consultants servicing the production onsite could introduce malware into the network.

2 The increased risk of a targeted attack for financial gain - although these attacks have been predominantly targeting large financial institutions and Internet companies, IT security experts predict that it is only a matter of time before manufacturing companies could become a target.

By implementing Norman Network Protection (NNP) Arla could address their security concerns without major changes to their existing infrastructure.

'We are seeing an emerging requirement for effective anti Malware scanning that can be integrated at various points throughout the network with minimal impact on the organization' States David Robinson, Country Manager, Norman UK 'Whilst most organizations implement security across the administration network it is not always appropriate to or indeed possible to implement a full anti virus policy across the production network. NNP's multi protocol support detects and protects against malicious network traffic stopping all known and unknown viruses, worms, trojans and spyware without sacrificing performance. In real-time it scans CIFS and SMB, as well as HTTP, FTP, SMTP, POP3, RPC, TFTP and IRC, positioning NNP among the most suitable anti-malware scanners in the industry.'

NNP's web based management system instantly informs and protects against emerging threats and malware. When NNP discovers a new and unknown piece of Malware the file is blocked and quarantine, from here the administrator can use the award winning Norman SandBox technology to generate an analysis on the actions of the file.

Primary features include:.

* Proactive detection of known and unknown spyware, trojans and viruses.
* High performance scanning of real-time LAN and Internet traffic with minimal latency.
* Active protection with block and exclude on IP and Mac address and VLAN level.
* Inbound and outbound stream scanning of Internet and local networks supports multiple protocols.
* Fast and easy deployment at the core or edge of the network.
* Malware outbreak prevention - Malware damage control.
* Detailed pinpointing of malware source (host and file path).
* Easy administration through a web-based graphical interface and fully automated updates, logs, reports, statistics and alerts.
