AdCheck Prevents Promotional Campaign Fraud For Retailers

Agilence : 27 January, 2011  (New Product)
Real-time monitoring of promotions and coupons at the point of sale with AdCheck from Agilence enables retailers to reduce related fraud
Agilence has officially unveiled AdCheck – the latest addition to the company’s retail loss prevention software suite.

In today's competitive retail environment, merchandisers and advertisers create new and unique promotions to encourage customer loyalty. However, these incentives are creating a new breed of loss for retailers, as operational procedures surrounding promotions are often mishandled or poorly executed. With AdCheck, retailers can monitor the effectiveness of their programs directly at the point-of-sale.

Estevez Markets, a seven-store grocery chain operating under the Foodtown banner, saw immediate benefits after it began using AdCheck in conjunction with Agilence’s other services. “Our sale circulars and loyalty discounts are changing all the time,” stated Robin Estevez of Estevez Markets. “We needed a proactive way to ensure that these promotions and offers were handled correctly from the moment they began.”

AdCheck enables retailers to protect their programs by reducing losses associated with promotions and coupons. Many grocers, drug stores and other retailers run weekly promotional circulars – increasing the probability that losses will occur due to improper training, systemic issues or other operational inefficiencies. Agilence’s AdCheck service ensures that weekly circular offers are entered correctly into the POS system and that store employees are properly executing the promotions at the point-of-sale.

AdCheck runs specific queries to monitor and investigate the promotions as they begin, reporting back inconsistencies, errors and training issues within hours of the ad break. Other tools might not detect these issues until the promotion is finished – after significant losses have taken place.

“Promotions can range from basic buy-one, get-one (BOGO) free offers to more complex deals aimed at helping vendors launch new products,” explains Derek Rodner, Vice President of Product Strategy at Agilence. “With retailers increasingly extending these promotions and loyalty discounts to their customers, there’s now much more to focus on at the point-of-sale.”

Recently, one of Agilence’s larger grocery customers was offering a buy-one, get-one free promotion that was incorrectly input into the POS system. Utilizing AdCheck, the grocer was quickly alerted to the fact that cashiers chain-wide were “correcting” the problem by bypassing the scanner as they bagged the second item. Without quickly identifying this issue, the grocer would have had inaccurate inventory records and would not be reimbursed by the vendor sponsoring the BOGO promotion.

AdCheck is the latest addition to Agilence’s complete POS Video Auditing solution which enables retailers to efficiently identify losses at the POS. Agilence’s technology pulls data directly from the POS system and marries that data with video in real-time. Each individual item scan and key punch within a transaction is perfectly linked to its associated video image. This information is readily accessible via a powerful query tool that can combine 43 different variables to quickly and easily identify the profit-margin robbing activities that occur at the POS.
