Access control for Woodland Grange conference centre.

Salto Systems : 07 June, 2007  (Application Story)
Conference centre benefits from electronic locks to improve security levels and replace older mechanical locks.
Woodland Grange, the Leamington Spa based conference and training centre, has chosen Salto Systems to provide its access control security management. The centre awarded the contract to approved Salto business partner, Allgood.

One of the UK's leading conference centres, Woodland Grange is also one of the country's most respected and successful providers of health, safety and environmental training as well as management development programmes. It recently completed a £5 million expansion and extension programme and now offers delegates a total of 114 ensuite bedrooms all to 4-star levels of comfort, 26 conference and seminar rooms with the latest technical facilities and outstanding leisure and general relaxation facilities.

"As part of our new build extension programme we wanted to replace our outdated mechanical lock and key security with a tailored electronic access control system," comments John Turpin, Operations Manager at Woodland Grange. "Working in consultation with Allgood we designed a highly secure and flexible access control system to meet all our needs. It had to be sleek, modern and contemporary to match our new build surroundings, it had to have practicality of use and it had to be a proximity system to comply with DDA (Disability Discrimination Regulations)," Turpin continues.

Salto comfort range locks in polished brass and brushed steel finishes with privacy thumb-turn option (which provides electronic blocking of entry by room service personnel if desired when the guest is in the room) with bespoke handle designs have been fitted to all 114 guest bedrooms.

Specifically designed for use with internal doors, the locks have been tested and approved to withstand fire resistance for 1 hour and are simple and quick to install. Power is supplied by 3 AAA batteries good for up to 60,000 openings, and each lock can support up to 64,000 users. The locks also feature anti-vandal protection to safeguard their electronics, which are housed in the inner backplane, on the inside of the door. Finally, their clean lines blend effortlessly with Woodland Grange's modern design.

"The new locks support Legic carrier technology and come equipped with a built-in audit trail facility that stores the last 1,000 events in the Read/Write escutcheon which is used extensively used by the centre's housekeepers," comments Dean Pendlebury, SALTO Systems UK Sales Manager.

With the installation of the Salto access control system Woodland Grange no longer have the worry or cost of changing lock cylinders, but now have the ability to cancel out cards from the system when guests leave, loose or do not return them. This enables them to maintain high levels of security ensuring a secure and accessible environment for both staff and guests alike.

Salto allows users to remove mechanical keys from their sites because it is the most cost effective access control solution specifically designed in a format to control door locks. When combined with the Salto Virtual Network (SVN) and Salto Wireless Network (SWN) it offers users the benefits of an On Line access control system at a fraction of the cost, thus allowing for more access controlled doors, and less mechanical keys."

With future expansion plans, the flexible Salto access control system can easily grow to meet ongoing security requirements and Woodland Grange are already looking to add the technology to leisure suite and back office applications.
