15 minutes per day security plan for SMEs from McAfee

McAfee : 14 October, 2008  (New Product)
With the release of Total Protection for Secure Business, McAfee jointly launches guide to smaller businesses on how to manage the security of their corporate data
McAfee has announced the release of McAfee Total Protection (ToPS) for Secure Business, a comprehensive suite that offers small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) complete security in one easy-to-manage package. Coupled with McAfee's "15 Minutes to a Secure Business" a set of McAfee daily practices also released, businesses can maintain a very strong security posture in just 15 minutes a day.

According to recent research from McAfee, over half the businesses surveyed reported that they only were able to spend an hour a week managing their IT security. McAfee ToPS for Secure Business provides all the essential elements of security that an organization needs—desktop, email, Web and data protection—without creating a large management burden. When this solution is deployed SMBs can employ the McAfee security management approach to maintain a very strong security posture in just 15 minutes a day.

"SMBs are under daily attack from an ever-growing list of security threats, including new forms of malware, spam and data loss," said Chris Christiansen, program vice president, Security Products and Services, IDC. 'Even though many SMBs believe they have nothing worth stealing, IDC believes that every part of an SMB network and computing infrastructure is useful to criminals. Increasingly, we recommend that SMB customers implement their security protection in suites, rather than discrete products. This enables them to get the best value for their money, have a single vendor to work with, and require less administration effort and training."

"McAfee makes it easy for me to educate my SMB customers about what they need to ensure their computing environment, systems and information are secure," said Becky Ramey, senior product consultant Broughton International. "I have access to a complete security solution from a single vendor, with a set of guidelines I can pass on to my customer about a typical day's activities. Whether it's reviewing Web traffic patterns or encrypting portable devices and laptops, McAfee's expert advice helps my clients secure their business."

"One of my biggest support challenges as a SMB is keeping my company's data safe when it's being accessed and used by mobile users, who tend to rely heavily on PDAs and USB sticks," said Jain Giles, IT manager at Naim Audio. "This can lead to malware entering the system, data loss, and other potential threats, which we just don't need. McAfee's products are simple and really help enable our day-to-day management efficiencies."

McAfee ToPS for Secure Business includes critical elements of security that most medium-size businesses need. It integrates complete security for endpoints, email, Web, and data while providing a compliance infrastructure. It also includes McAfee's new Artemis technology, the industry's first technology to shield computer users against attacks as they happen without requiring a traditional, scheduled update of threat signatures to be installed on the machine-significantly helping companies reduce their exposure to emerging threats. Compared with the alternative of purchasing and maintaining multiple security products from multiple vendors, the solution will save businesses time, save money, and provide stronger defences against known and unknown threats.

"Our SMB customers tell us they want to focus on building their businesses—not on buying and maintaining a slew of security vendor 'point solutions'," said Darrell Rodenbaugh, senior vice president of McAfee's mid-market segment. "They tell us they want security that is smart, simple and secure—intelligence built in, simple to deploy and maintain, and most important, uncompromising protection to keep our customer's information systems safe and secure. We think this powerful new suite, combined with ground-breaking best-practices for security management, provides the highest level of protection for the least amount of time, effort and cost."
