Beta testers required for Unix and Linux anti-virus

BitDefender UK : 18 November, 2008
BitDefender invites users to Beta test Antivirus Engines for Unices with improved graphical interface
BitDefender has updated its Antivirus Scanner for Unices - the command line application for both Linux and FreeBSD systems. Users will find a clear graphical interface to help them set up antivirus scanning to best fit their operational requirements. Performance is delivered by certified BitDefender Antivirus Engines and it will provide on-demand anti-malware scanning for both UNIX-based and Windows-based partitions.

The new beta version of BitDefender Antivirus Scanner for Unices is an upgrade to the current product. It is free for personal use and will be available for testing until January 15, 2009.

For the most impressive bug submission activity, BitDefender is offering a one year license of a Windows/Linux business solution of choice, for up to 35 users. Other prizes will include a 16GB iPod Touch and other desktop solutions.

Key features include:

• On-demand scanner
• Malware signatures and engine updates
• Context menu integration with the most common desktop environments (KDE and GNOME)
• Open source plugins for three popular file managers: Konqueror (KDE), Nautilus (GNOME) and Thunar (Xfce)
• Support for the x86 and amd64 architectures
• Available for gcc-4.x systems
• Language support for further localization

"Beta testing is the most efficient way to ensure BitDefender products have all the kinks worked out," said Bogdan Dumitru, BitDefender's chief technical officer. "We are relying on the BitDefender community's interest in testing this beta product to help us produce a finalized product that fully protects Unices users."
